Knee Lymphedema Exercise


      Here are a few knee lymphedema exercises that you can do from home to help your with your lymphedema problem.

      Lymphedema knee exercise: Heel Slide - Supine

Beginning with toes pointed toward ceiling and knees straight, slide involved heel towards buttocks while bending knee.
Repeat 30-35 times. ( start slowly in the first 2-3 days with only 20 repeats)
Do this exercise 3-5 times per day.

      Lymphedema knee exercise: Quadriceps set - Supine

Push knees toward the bed. Hold for 5 seconds.
Relax.
Repeat 20-25 times. (again, in the first few days start with fewer repeats)
Do this exercise 3-5 times a day.



A few tips to keep in mind when doing your knee lymphedema exercises:

  • Do exercises slowly so muscles give maximum pressure to move swelling.
  • Always breathe normally when doing your exercises.
  • If exercises cause dizziness, shortness of breath, pain or extreme fatigue stop immediately - take it easier and if this still happens notify your therapist to see why.
  • Never "arch" your back or neck when doing your exercises.
